PAPARAZZI FACTS
- There are approximately 450 paparazzi in Los Angeles.
- A paparazzo who works for an agency can earn $10,000-15,000 a month. If they get a scoop and bonuses they can make up to up to $30,000. A paparazzi picture can get them anything from $250 to $500,000.
- There are SEVEN “large” paparazzi agencies in Los Angeles (Splash News, Fame, GFX, X17, Bauer-Griffin, TMZ, Sunset Photo and News). They generally employ a hundred or so paparazzi and they generate about 20 million in revenue.
PROFITABLE PAPARAZZI PICS
- November 2003: Michael Jackson surrendering to police at the exit of his jet in California (suspected of child abuse) US $250,000
- April 2005: US Weekly magazine is said to have paid $500,000 for photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on a beach in Kenya together.
- September 2006: Paris Hilton arrest (in handcuffs) in Los Angeles US $150,000
- February 2007: According to Gary Morgan, of Splash News video of Anna Nicole Smith’s dead body on a gurney was the most expensive paparazzi video every sold. 1 million dollars within the first few weeks of release. This video has earned his agency a total of 1.5 million so far.
- February 16, 2007: Britney Spears shaving her head in Los Angeles US $250,000, X17 was paid for that picture.
- February 21, 2007: Britney Spears attacking a paparazzo with an umbrella in Los Angeles US $150,000 It was taken by someone known as “Danny Boy” who worked for X17. He said that he has the green umbrella she attacked him with. He put it on Ebay to see what it would bid and it went up to $34,000. He didn’t sell it. Apparently she apologized and agreed to sign it for him.
- July 2007: Britney Spears in a Jacuzzi with a young unknown US $150,000.
- May 28-29 2007: Lindsay Lohan fainted in her car after exiting a Los Angeles bar US $100,000.
